Tahoe Truckee Weather Report
Thursday Dec. 19
A little storm that is starting to look like the last one of the year is moving through the Tahoe Basin this morning.
Light snow should continue for a few more hours, at least with scattered showers. Snow level levels are dropping to below 4000 feet in the foothills.
Accumulations will be scant, perhaps two to four inches at the highest elevations around the basin. Strong winds are expected behind the front, with gusts of close to 50 mph possible along the ridges.
Once this system moves through, the high pressure along the Pacific Coast will strengthen again, bringing warm, above-average temperatures through the weekend and into early next week.
Those highs will likely be moderated a bit when a cold front passes to our north and east around Christmas Day, but no precipitation is in the forecast with that one.
There’s no sign yet that the overall pattern is going to be changing anytime soon. The storms are being pushed north into Canada by a ridge off the west coast, and until that ridge moves, we’re toast.
It won’t stay there all season though. At some point, it will break. We just know it’s not likely to happen in the next 7 to 10 days.
Stay tuned. We will let you know as soon as there is movement.
