TAHOE-TRUCKEE, California.
The second of two spring Tahoe-Truckee snow storms forecast this week could bring a foot of snow to the greater Lake Tahoe region by Wednesday morning.
A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 5 a.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Three to 6 inches of snow is forecast at lake level, with 6 to 12 inches possible above 7,000 feet.
“Snow showers will intensify Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night,” according to NWS.
As is the case with most Sierra storms, if conditions pan out, driving will be a challenge. Snow tire or chain restrictions will likely be in effect along most highways and passes, including Interstate 80, U.S. Highway 50, California highways 28, 89 and 267, and Nevada highways 28, 207 and 431.
Tuesday’s storm comes after a small system swept through the region on Easter Sunday, bringing a couple inches of snow here and there at higher-elevation locations around the region.
Sunny skies are expected to return by the weekend, with high temperatures forecast in the mid-50s to low-60s.
